About Us
Land and Property Information (LPI), a division of the Department of Finance & Services, is the agency responsible for registering land transactions and maintaining and providing land and property information in NSW.
LPI is responsible for maintaining the integrity of the Torrens Title register and ensuring public confidence in real property dealings in New South Wales. Each year, we receive between 800,000 and 1,000,000 paper registry instruments (commonly called Dealings) for processing.
These instruments arise from approximately 230,000 land and property sales, worth around $100 billion per annum. Despite their considerable volume and value, property transactions in New South Wales today still depend on personally attended financial settlements and the completion of lodgment paper documents
Our reliance upon a manual conveyancing process is time consuming and labour intensive, as well as inconsistent with the NSW Government’s commitment to electronic service delivery.
From 2006 to 2010 LPI established and resourced a NECS Readiness Program intended to scope, specify requirements and implement the changes to legislation, business practices and systems required to enable and regulate electronic conveyancing.
From July 2010, LPI has established the National E-Conveyancing Implementation Support (NIS) Program, which will complete the specification, provisioning and implementation work required for the implementation of National Electronic Conveyancing in NSW.
